George Orwell was the author of Animal Farm. His real name was Eric Blair. He was born in Bengal, India in 1903. He moved to England in 1904, and he received his education at Eton. In the 1930s he adopted socialist views. He fought in the Spanish Civil War as part of the United Workers Marxist Party. The war made him strongly oppose communism and support an English version of socialism. He hated fascism and totalitarianism. He died in 1950 of tuberculosis.
